Quick note — I haven’t received any mail since last night, and I’m not sure when that will change (hopefully soon). If there’s something important you’ve emailed me about that I need to attend to before Monday, please ping me in IRC and/or send mail to deb.richardson@gmail.com. Thanks.

Sounds clueless, but isn’t (always)
Shaver linked to this article a few days ago. It’s a good article, and I hope lots of people will read it.
You see, I’m one of the slow-talker types. I like to sit in the corner quietly absorbing the conversations around me, thinking about things for a while before I respond. This is why I prefer email and other asynchronous communication media for in-depth discussion.
If I’m in a “real-time” conversation where other people are talking/thinking faster than I am, I usually find it a) very difficult to get a word in edgewise, and b) difficult to express myself as eloquently as I would like.
When I write email, particularly important email that I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about, I usually edit relentlessly (occasionally writing multiple drafts) in order to make my point as clearly and succinctly as possible. In real-time, high-pressure, heavy-thought-requiring conversation, I don’t have that luxury, so I often just end up sounding like the “slow dolt” mentioned in the article. And, honestly, that’s just no fun at all.
Help verify some bustage?
So, I installed IE7b2 and immediately noticed that the top nav tabs at the MDC are very broken. Could someone else with IE7b2 check the site and verify that I’m not the only one seeing the problem? They work OK (not perfect, but OK) in IE6, so I’d like to figure out what the problem is.
Bonus points if you can figure out how to fix it. The (currently sort of ugly) CSS are here.
Thanks!
Still on vacation
Left for Moncton on Friday. Left Moncton to go to NS on Wed morning. Yesterday and today we’re in Wolfville, and tomorrow we head in to Halifax. Saturday morning we head back to Moncton, then Sunday we drive back to Ottawa. All good, although the weather has been relentlessly crappy. We actually have been snowed on more than once this week, and the forecast is hinting at further flurries this evening.
I’m increasingly convinced that “summoning crap weather while on vacation or travelling” is my super power.
It stopped raining today long enough for us to get a few photos of the Annapolis Valley. You can see them here.
Vacation
I’m on vacation and more-or-less afk from Friday April 14 to Sunday April 23. I’ll check email sporadically when I can, but net access is going to be unreliable at best. While I’m away contact shaver or sheppy about MDC-related issues. Thanks!
Eric Shepherd: Technical writer
I’m extremely excited to announce that Eric Shepherd has joined the Mozilla Developer Center team as a full-time technical writer.
Eric has a very solid background in programming/development as well as technical writing, making him an excellent fit for improving and expanding our developer documentation.
You can find Eric in IRC as “sheppy”.
